Whirlwinds

Whirlwind #1
A tornado!
Last week was pretty exciting. We had a tornado in Oklahoma! It was quite the experience! We were very blessed because the tornado went around us. They usually don't get tornadoes in February (the real tornado season is in the spring - April and May), but I guess the conditions were right for one last Tues and the tornado warning went off while I was at home. I turned on the radio and the news and they said that a tornado was starting to form in Oklahoma City a few miles away from where we live! That was intense! I grabbed our emergency packs, pillows and blankets and put them in our bathroom (the safest place in our apt) and then watched the news a little more to find out what was happening. It hit a few miles away causing some damage to a shopping area. I watched the skies and was ready to run to the bathroom at the slightest sign of it. But then I learned that it went around us and hit about a few miles northeast of us. I heard that it hit a lot of houses there and continued up north a little more. I think there were 9 people that died and a few injuries. I feel bad, but so grateful we were safe.
With the tornados, hail is pretty common. Luckily we only got nickel sized hail (I kept some in our freezer!) A few cities nearby got hail the size of tennis balls! They showed it on the news - it was crazy! So between that and the winds, it did some damage. Jeff was at school when this happened so they had all the students go down into the basement at the school. He called me from there. I'm grateful for technology! We were both very blessed! In fact, we had power through the whole storm! There were over 6,000 homes that lost power from that storm. It was good to go over the emergency plan and actually felt relieved to know that we were prepared. It was still scary though and I'm glad to be through it. Now I can say I've experienced a tornado. I now feel like a real Oklahoman! I can add that to my list of adventures! I just hope it doesn't get any closer than that!

On a 'light'er note...
Whirlwind #2:
Valentine's Day was great! Jeff spoiled me! He made me breakfast (pink eggs and pink milk and heart shaped toast). I then went to a babyshower that the ward gave me. It was fun! When I returned home, Jeff gave me some beautiful yellow daisies and a homemade card. We then went to Norman to look at OU's campus. Then he took me to Marie Calendars for dinner! Yum! We then stopped at the lighthouse by Lake Hefner (you didn't know there were lighthouses in Oklahoma?!) to take a few pictures and enjoy the sunset on the lake! Beautiful!
I surprised him with a new Jim Brickman CD and made him some homemade chocolate covered strawberries! I was excited at how they turned out! He thought I had bought them! I then made him a heartshaped cake and we enjoyed that with a fancy goblet of milk. It was such a nice day.

I am so glad you survived the WHIRLWINDS, I laughed at the fact that the bathroom is the safest place to be, because that is usually not the case! Looks like you had a fun Valentines day.

wOW! Jim lived there for like 15 years and never experienced a tornado! Lucky you. He grew up in Norman, where you just were...what did you think? I love all the heart-shaped dyed food. Dawn and I missed you today (and tomorrow) at UDA! Fun to see old friends there though!

Glad you guys are safe. I think I would melt in a puddle and cry. How is the countdown to baby time going? Can you believe Kairi is almost 4 months old? Time flies so enjoy every minute when your little one arrives.

I so glad to hear that you are safe! That would be really scary.

The picture of the lighthouse you visited looks a lot like one we have here on Cayuga Lake. I'm glad you had such a wonderful Valentine's Day.

I'm glad that everything turned out okay. Your Valentine's Day looks to have turned out great. I love the strawberries. I'd say I'm having a craving but then you might start thinking things that aren't true. Love ya!

I agree with Marci on the strawberries. I am also having a craving and it definitely isn't due to anything like she was alluding to. You two are so CUTE!
