On Wed, November 24 we went down to Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. We thought that would be a great Thanksgiving adventure since that is where some of the first colonial settlements were. The drive down there was beautiful!
Our first stop in this historic triangle was Yorktown. It played an important role in the victory of the American Revolutionary war.
This is the battlefield where the American and the French troops fought the British. It was the last major land battle of the Revolutionary War. The British were forced to surrender, beginning the end of the war.
This area was also used as battlegrounds during the Civil War too.
The Moore house below is where Gen. Washington met with Gen. Cornwallis's proxy to negotiate the British's surrender.
One of the battle hills. Do you notice the logs sharpened at one end to deter an attack?
The York river
It was really interesting to learn the history here. We are grateful for our land of freedom!
